[Dysphagia] Medicare holidays

I provide SLP services in a nursing home setting in the USA. The rehab
company I work for says that Medicare does not recognize any holidays,
and demands 5 days a week of treatment if that's what the doctor's order
specifies. That means that if per diem SLP coverage is not available
for Thanksgiving and the day after, we need to cover for ourselves by
working the Sunday before and the Saturday after the holiday.

A friend who works for another rehab company takes off all holidays and
simply "charges" them to his Paid Time Off (PTO). He says he's been
told that Medicare DOES recognize national holidays, and that while 4
days of treatment intereferes with the trend of expected RUG levels when
the PO states 5 days of treatment, it does not represent any problems
for Medicare.

Has anyone any insight into the facts here?
