[Dysphagia] thickening breast milk

Hi Linda
Actually, I responded specifically to the author of the post and did question why one would want to thicken the breastmilk, asking instead to thoroughly evaluate the mechanism of input and to never thicken the breast milk. Pacing, changing the nipple, etc would be the best way to go and also asked why would one thicken it, what was the source of reasoning, ie was there a study done that showed this babe did better for some unknown reason with the milk thickened....
so there ya go, I will post this for all to see and hope that we get more debate about it!
Sorry I didn't post to all when I responded :)

There was a post today on the ASHA Division 13 listserv asking about how to thicken breast milk. Given the debates on this list about thickening liquids in other populations I was wondering what the consensus is about breast milk. So far no one has offered a solution that works and no one has questioned why it's needed in the first place.

I'm hoping this starts a lively conversation!
