Hi All,
Can anyone make suggestions for liquified foods/fluids to suggest to a
family for a palliative gentleman with end stage PD (PSP actually)?
He is alert at times throughout the day.
The family is wishing not to have enteral feeding but would like to give him
small sips of something enjoyable (fully realizing risk:benefit ratio).
I told them to try whatever they know he really enjoyed prior to being sick.
One of those items is coffee. I passed on the information I have learned
from the listserv re: cold and sweet stimuli (while perhaps not universal,
certainly worth a try).
This gentleman's daughter is a friend of mine and I'd like to give her some
additional suggestions, so I thought perhaps I'd pose the question to the
group.
One thing I thought they might try with him is some fruit in a safe-feeder
(those devices with an outside-of-the-mouth tether/handle and a mesh bag for
the food to go in, so juices can be obtained)...if I can find one.
If we can't use one of those, I thought perhaps some fruit smoothies, or
milkshakes.
Please email me with any ideas you have that have worked with similar
patients in the past, I'd appreciate it.
Kim
