[Dysphagia] Re: VFSS materials and teaching
You could try this site, which has a couple of examples including A-P
http://vhhn.visiblehuman.org/Content?volume=1&function=3?ion=1&page=1
*** On this one, I found the Quick time video denied.
or if you're looking for an animation to orient your patients, try
http://hopkins-gi.org/multimedia/database/intro_250_Swallow.swf
*** This is a clear animation but it also contains "information" that I continue to find promulgated and that leads clinicians astray. again we have "laryngeal elevation" when it should be - at the very least- hyolaryngeal anterior movement AND, even worse, the implication that the epiglottis protects the airway. No mention of the real airway protection - arytenoid to epiglottic base approximation. this animation would be good enough for use with patients - although I prefer using a real VFSS in slo-mo - but never for students.
I haven't seen Flinders U. CD but there are other materials available that contain, among other things, not only incorrect information but such things as VFSS of an abnormal swallow with absolutely no mention of the huge osteophyte that is causing the problem. I teach this stuff to radiologists and find I can use only my own patient studies in real time and, most importantly, in slow motion as no-one can accurately analyze a tape in real time no matter how much experience they may have.
