Karen,

I few years ago I attended a course on trophic stimulation which had applications to Bell's Palsy, Stroke etc. It is similar to TENS machines only works in reverse with the elctrical stimulation 'feeding' the muscles. It involves attaching the machine several times a day for a 'workout'.

I have never practiced it due to lack of equipment, but the physiotherapists you work with may know more. In the UK the main advocate/trainer is called Diana Farragher (she's a physiotherapist) and her website which gives more details is:
http://www.dianafarragher.co.uk/

Hope that helps.

Jennie

I am looking for any information regarding SLP involvement in the
treatment of Bell's Palsy. Specifically, what, if any, treatment
interventions are appropriate and effective? Also, any good support
resources would be helpful. I have a friend who has a friend diagnosed
following childbirth and they are seeking guidance.

Thanks in advance.
karen
