Subject: [Dysphagia] weekend coverage

I have just switched jobs from one hospital to another
in the same city Greater Toronto Area in Ontario).
They are both centres that have ERs, ICUs, acute ward
floors, inpatient rehab, complex continuing care, and
outpatient services.

In neither centre is there service on the weekends for
SLP.

I was surprised to learn at my new facility, that
there is statutory holiday coverage on inpatient
floors. There was no holiday coverage at my previous
hospital, nor at any other facility in our area that I
know of.

As for off-hours, there is no one available after the
usual business hours.

At my previous centre, there was a swallowing
screening tool created to assist the ER, in
particular, when SLP was not available.
