[Dysphagia] VFSS without PMV

Sherri,
It has been my experience that the PM valve helps to create
a more "normal" swallow situation for our patients with trachs.
That is why many like the pt. to wear it during PO intake. However,
if the pt. cannot tolerate it ......which many cannot.....then the swallow
test, clincal or video, should be done without it because this would
be the way the pt. will be eating on an everyday basis. Hope this
helps a little!
