Thank you to everyone who made suggestions - I have passed them on to my colleague.

Just to update, the lady is currently receiving tactile stimulation to the outside of her face several times a day, but is unable to do this herself at present. She is still very hypersensitive and although she can cope with stimulation to her cheek, she coughs when her throat is touched. At present it has not been possible to do any stimulation in her mouth.

Unfortunately she was discharged from hospital without insertion of a PEG, and at present in living on 1/2 litre of fluids a day! In hospital they just put her not eating and drinking down to post-stroke depression. Needless to say, an urgent PEG referral has gone in as this lady has already lost 25% of her body weight. I think that subcut fluids are being organised by her GP too.

If anyone knows of any research in this area, we would be really grateful.

Thanks
Jennie
