I highly recommend the book "Management of Speech and Swallowing in Degenerative Diseases, 2nd Ed." by Yorkston, Miller & Strand, published by Pro-Ed. Though it is written primarily for SLP's it has an excellent section of handouts for patients and families on various aspects of normal and disordered speech and swallowing specifically in Parkinson's as well as covering ALS, MS and Huntington's disease. I frequently use the handouts for the families of patients who are experiencing a worsening of symptoms in Parkinson's disease. Though it may not be timely enough or budget-wise for your current needs, it's a great resource to have on hand in the medical setting.

I am looking for some information to provide to a family regarding
the progression of Parkinson's disease and the impact on swallowing
in particular (especially toward the end of life). I want to provide
something in clear and simple writing that would be in addition to
direct education to the family. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Velvet Balmer, SLP
