Hi Everyone,

I am looking for information about using VitalStim on people with MS. My mom has MS (2ndard progressive, dx: 1978). She is able to handle nectar thick liquids-solid food, but can't tolerate thin liquids without aspirating. Although she doesn't usually aspirate solid food, she does cough and sometimes choke temporarily while eating. She is able to clear her throat and make the food go down. Does anyone have experience using VitalStim on a patient like this?

She has had several MBSS, but I don't know the exact terms for what was seen during the test. From what I understood, food sometimes gets stuck in the spot where the trachea branches off, but doesn't actually penetrate this space. Hope this make sense to someone.

Thanks,
Cristin O'Neal
