[Dysphagia] narcotics

I work in an acute care hospital and a rehab center for eldely persons. We often
see a deterioration of swallowing after surgical interventions, especially if
narcotics were used. Does anyone have information in this field, are there any
studies? Is this only a problem in elderly and why? (Dementia is not always a
problem.) Could other medications contribute as well, and which ones?
