[Dysphagia] UES/Reflux query
Oops, sorry - found this in my pending-mail...we do some salivagrams and
they just give some idea of secretions handling, nothing very precise.
If pickup over the lungs exceeds background or "normal" you don't really
know from that alone if it is related to reflux vs just poor laryngeal
function, or more to the point, how much it would help to decrease stomach
acidity. Tech scans for GER and gastric emptying to me seem to have about
the right sensitivity for reflux and tell you quantitatively if there is a
problem with gastric emptying. These latter studies are a lot less
invasive than endoscopies or pH probes, and I think probably should be
used a little more widely.
