[Dysphagia] lingual frenum

I have a 5yo nephew whose dentist recently rec lingual frenum sx. History is insignificant for any speech, feeding, or swallowing issues. I can't think of a reason to proceed with sx. Does anyone have any insight? Is this type of procedure currently commonly being rec? I thought some years ago they had stopped doing these?
