[Dysphagia] Silent aspiration
Maybe 50% accuracy with a negative. A positive blue dye test is 100% accurate. I tell pts & families that a positive test tells me something, a negative tells me nothing. I see trach pts all day long so believe me I understand the pros & cons of blue dye testing. But thank you for the clarification,

But remember, the blue dye test only has a 50% accuracy rate....have to
take whole picture into consideration--pt. history (including GERD) and
present condition, respiratory function/ chest x-ray results, lab results,
clinical exam, medication effects, co-morbidities, ability to feed self and
perform oral care, etc....and even then, mey not be able to say silent
aspiration for sure, but should be able to tell if pt. is likely to
aspirate silently, or otherwise....
