[Dysphagia] physios/chiropractors in swallowing rehab
Hi Deanna and all,
My husband is a chiropractor, and he has never heard
of treating or "curing" dysphagia through
chiropractic. His comment when I shared your message
with him was, "That certainly isn't covered in
chiropractic school!" (Everything he knows about
dysphagia he has learned from his wife who can never
stop talking about work!)
He did say that it is *possible* that when a patient's
nervous system improves through chiropractic care
(which is an essential goal of chiropractic), that
swallowing function could *potentially* improve in
patients who have a neurologically related dysphagia.
If you have dysphagia, it could only help to have a
well-functioning nervous system. But it's not a
common practice to treat dysphagia (let alone claim to
"cure" it) through chiropractic.
