Subject: [Dysphagia] Pharyngeal reflex Trigger
It is tough to identifiy a specific event, however we generally mark it with
the position of the bolus at the initiation of the palatal closure (followed
by multiple levels of glottal closure) and tongue base retraction-then
pharyngeal constriction-hyoid excursion and laryngeal elevation-through the
relaxation of and successful transfer through the cricopharyngeus. All of the
factors are so closely related that it is tough to divide it out. Hope this helps.
