Hello All
Just in case you missed this the first time around, and I would hate for
anyone to miss such an opportunity...
A colleague of mine in Germany is looking into CA and the clinical exam. So
here we have another small piece of evidence being created hopefully. So this
is an invite to those who use it and love it, use it and aren't too sure, or
use it but really don't know, to participate in a study.
And much as I go on about clinicians doing research, equally important is
people participating in that research. No volunteers = no evidence, one way
or another.
I'm not involved in this work at all so if you would like to help Christiane
out please email her directly. She has sent me a pdf which I can forward to
individuals if you contact me.
Many thanks, feel free to pass this on to any interested parties!
Paula
To all speech and language pathologists
Project Cervical Auscultation (CA)
Dear Speech and Language Pathologists,
for my PhD Thesis "Reliability and Validity of CA" at the University of
Bielefeld (Germany) under supervision of HD Dr. M. Hielscher-Fastabend,
Prof. Dr. G. Rickheit and Prof. Dr. med. Dr. R. Sader, in cooperation
with the Otto-Fricke-Clinic Bad Schwalbach (near Frankfurt am Main) I
investigate the reliability of CA in connection with parameters of the
clinical swallow examination (CSE).
If you have been working with dysphagic patients for at least two years
and if you are familiar with CA, then
I'd like to invite you to participate in my project as a rater.
If you would like to become a rater please send an email to
christiane.borr@uni-bielefeld.de until 14/04/2006 and I will send you a
rater identity number and a password that allow you to fill out an
online questionnaire on my homepage
http://wwwhomes.uni-bielefeld.de/cborr/. All in all we have nine groups
of raters. The group you will be associated with is randomly selected.
Depending on your group you will classify swallow soundfiles, clinical
parameters from CSE or videofiles from sixteen geriatric patients, who
were enrol for a dysphagia cheque. The time to fill out the
questionnaire is about 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your group. To get
information about the intrarater reliability it is necessary to classify
the same samples again after one week. It won't take much longer than 10
minutes. For more information please have a look at my homepage.
Of course, your data will be treated anonymous.
For your participation you could get a certificate from the Bielefeld
University, if you like.
I would be very thankful if you decide to support the study!
Best wishes,
Christiane Borr
