[Dysphagia] Oral hygiene revisited briefly

According to the workshop I attended which focused upon the Frasier water
protocol and oral hygiene, Tom Franceschini presented info to use the 50-50
hydrogen peroxide and tap water. This will make the solution 1.5% hydrogen
peroxide and can be used as a 3x daily oral rinse. He also advocated soaking
any partials/dentures in this solution overnight at the very least initially
to kill the bacteria that permeate the denture material. Part of that comes
from: Schleder B et al, The effect of a comprehensive oral care protocol on
patients at risk for vnetilator associated pneumonia. J Advocate Health
2002; 10 (4): 27-30.
Tom, if you are out there and need to clarify this answer, please do so. (By
the way, I'm using a lot of the information from that workshop for a
mandatory in-service at one of my SNFs this week. Thanks so much.
