[Dysphagia] Oral care

The use of hydrogen peroxide continuously in the mouth is frowned on by dentists as it changes the pH of the oral cavity. As a one time preparation for surgery it may be fine but not on an continual basis. Also, I would be very concerned about the daily use of mineral oil in a person who is aspirating There are several case reports of similar use leading to lipoid pneumonitis. Chlorhexidine solution is still the best as it penetrates the plaque and kills the bacteria. This is the goal. Getting rid of the gunk is nice but not as important as getting rid of the bacteria and the procedure described here won?t do that.
