VOICE RESTORATION FOLLOWING TOTAL LARYNGECTOMY:  Management of TEP
SEPTEMBER 22-23, 2006
GBMC Physicians Pavilion East, Conference Center, 6565 North Charles

This 1.5 day course is designed for the Speech Language Pathologist
working with patients who have undergone a Total Laryngectomy and
Tracheoesophageal Puncture (TEP).  The course focuses exclusively on
management of the TEP including InHealth and Provox prostheses. 
Participants will have extensive hands on training with practice models
and patients.  
Program Objectives:  
-Become familiar with the evolution of TEP.
-Learn basic anatomy and physiology related to TEP.
-Identify and become familiar with various models of voice prostheses
and tracheostoma valves.
-Demonstrate safe and accurate measurement of the TEP tract.
-Demonstrate safe and accurate insertion of the TEP voice prostheses.
-Identify potential problems associated with the TEP and determine
possible solutions to these problems.

9TH ANNUAL HEAD AND NECK CONFERENCE:  CURRENT TOPICS IN HEAD AND NECK
CANCER

About the Program:
This one day program is designed to educate Otolaryngologists, Head and
Neck Surgeons, Radiation and Medical Oncologists, General Dentists, Oral
Maxillofacial Surgeons and Prosthodontists, Speech Pathologists, Nurses,
Social Workers, other healthcare professionals and cancer survivors on
current trends in head and neck cancer rehabilitation. Topics will
include new cancer treatments and reconstruction methods, research
initiatives and rehabilitation issues for the Head and Neck Cancer
patient.  

Program Objectives:
By attending this program participants will:
-Describe the reconstructive needs of the different subsites of the
oropharynx and long-term functional outcomes of reconstruction methods.
-Identify key features related to alcohol and tobacco withdrawal and
outcomes in the older head and neck cancer patient.
-Discuss the oral environment and health consequences of oropharyngeal
dysphagia.
-Discuss taste loss and food aversions in the head and neck cancer
patient.
-Describe the effects of partial glossectomy on tongue movement and
speech acceptability.
-Discuss the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and associated oropharyngeal
cancers.
-Discuss the molecular basis of salivary gland tumors.
-Discuss the effects of Chemoradiation on Muscle Mass Loss and
Alterations in Physical Functioning
-Describe measurements used in Dysphagia evaluations of the HN Cancer
patient by the Speech Pathologist-  'Why and How we do it'
-Describe pain management techniques in the Head and Neck Cancer
Patient

Registration Information: The registration fee is $150.00 for
physicians, $100.00 for residents/nurses/social workers/ancillary
healthcare personnel, $25 for speech pathology students.
