[Dysphagia] FW: Trach tube covers

Thanks to everyone for suggestions for my pt with the trach. And for
your concern for my pt; some of you reminded me that Passy-Muir valves
are contraindicated with pts with subglottic stenosis. I guess I should
have added more info. My pt has only minimal subglottic stenosis. Her
O2 Sat is fine while she is wearing the P-M valve but she notices a
little more effort with it in place, so tends to take it off frequently.
(She can remove it herself). I suggested an HME as a filter but she
finds the same thing with it and so only wears it occasionally. It may
just be a matter of her getting used to it.
Your info about various product and company names is very helpful. My
pt was discharged from hospital post-tracheostomy with no info about
speaking valves, humidification, filters, etc. I will be contacting
those concerned to see how we can provide better education for our trach
pts.
