[Dysphagia] Qualifications

Which is why ASHA has determined there is not enough interest to develop
a clinical Speech Doctorate. Most, something like 80% of SLPs practice
in school settings and would gain little for the cost of a doctoral
degree. However, a coalition of VA SLPs is looking at developing a
clinical doctorate that would be geared toward the VA population.
Little has been done with the group so far, but it has been formed.

P.S. My graduate curriculum required me to take a full semester course
on Adv Child Psychology and Structure of English Language (diagram
sentences). I had a 2-week elective on Dysphagia. I never heard the
word neuroleptic until Dr. Campbell-Taylor.

Her course on the clinical exam is wonderful.

i really feel that there is a shortage of SLP's anyway, and a PH.D would

only prevent people from entering the field. if someone wants to work
with
peds doing artic or language, i doubt they need a PH.D to do that.
