I have wondered the same thing...but I do know that they are well known in the field..I guess there must be some legal-ethical commitment that they make to conduct a well designed study. They do a lot of survey research..another reason that they are "hired" is there are very few people who have a really good back ground in experiment design and statistics in most fields.
I was just trying to give an example of how a company might pursue unbiased research.
Also, I imagine (no concrete facts here) that with drug companies there are requirements from the FDA and other government agencies. We all know that government agencies never have vested interests...okay, bad, Marcia...the last time I made a political comment I was singed with flames.

I have no interest in VitalStim. I was simply questioning what acceptable path a company, any company, could take to get scientific validation of its product without paying for it. Regarding Rand, how "independent" can be if it is being hired?
