[Dysphagia] VitalStim conference

Hi,
Sorry for late response to this debate ..I was away on holidays
I some how disagree with what Irene is saying ...in Medicine for example most of the research is funded by the companies and if the research methodology is good and you declare the funding it is up to the reader to decide if it has any clinical value. It is not mandatory that a scientist should sell his science to serve the investor...it is shame I know some do...but truth always comes out. This research project of what I know about it has a very sound methodology and I am and so will other agree when the results are out .... it is a good scientific work ..and I am looking forward to the results of this study..it will clear lots of misconception about what we know and should know about vitalstim and its applications. "The truth is in the pudding" :-) ta
Jai Gupta.

With respect to the message re the research proposed please note:
"Researchers will test VitalStim, the only electrical stimulation device approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for this use, with funding from the Chattanooga Group, the device's manufacturer"
One never accepts money for reasearch from a body or group that has a vested interest in the outcome. This is the same problem that applies to the research re thickened fluids, started in 1996 and not yet (I believe) completed. Accepting any donation of money or materials from a manufacturer automatically introduces the potential for accusation of bias.
