posting for a colleague - hope i give all relevant info:

16 month old (adjusted) female born at 23 wk 1 lb 16oz
RDS, BPD, short bowel syndrome due to NEC, 6 month NICU stay

liquids via GT except water trials with therapist. Takes puree and some
chewable food PO
No trach/vent, no O2

todays videoswallow shows in:out penetration of thin barium by cup, tsp,
bottle - no aspiration. Same as last study
during liquid trials at home, there is rare cough. There has been no recent
history of pulmonary problems.

If this were an adult, would have no hesitation to liberalize diet to thin
liquids though the question from my colleague is how conservative should one
be this child?
continue water trials? liberalize to thin liquids and observe? ideas for
safest liquid presentation?

thanks in advance

eric
