[Dysphagia] cough reflex

A radiologist once told me that when aspirated
material reaches the corina (not sure of spelling -
where the trachea bifurcates into the bronchial
tubes)it will elicit a cough. This would explain the
delayed cough I often see in Pt's who don't have
immediate cough reflexes. I've never heard this
discussed in SLP circles, though. Anyone out there
know if this is accurate information? Thanks!
