This discussion is amusing to those of us who have been on this mail list for some years. In 1995, when I first naively intimated that one must consider the function of the esophagus and its influence on oropharyngeal dysphagia I was inundated with messages to the effect that this was not the role of the SLP, that all that was required was examination as far as the entrance to the airway etc.etc. - check the archives if they go back that far.
It has taken only about ten years to get this message across. Now, I hope that it won't take another ten to stop the over emphasis on aspiration.
