In response to Maria's question,
We conduct all modified barium swallows with a dietitian and an SLP.
Either can feed or record, but usually the SLP records. Both
disciplines are up-to-date with their dysphagia knowledge and skills.
Collaboratively they assess and develop a plan for the patient. Both
disciplines also use their unique skills ie neuromuscular assessment and
fluid/electrolyte management to provide coordinated and patient focussed
care. Two sets of eyes are definitely better than one, and a team of an
SLP and a dietitian is a great mix. Have a great day. W. Clancy P.Dt.
