I passed on Suzanne Morris's response on the pediatric oral aversion to a friend and she had the following questions. She and her daughter have a diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome
Thanks in advance for any info!

Thanks. Interesting. I have been through severe
hyperemsis twice. I can understand what Suzanne is
saying I think.
I have something quirky in the back of my neck. I am
wondering if she would have any thoughts.
There is a spot that has always been senstive to
touch, but during my preg with Ava and since, that
spot has become a trigger for gagging, nausea and
sometimes vomiting. Sometimes a tag or even my hair on
the back of my neck will trigger this. More likely to
happen if I am already feeling icky.
I have asked a number of doctors. The only one that
came up with anything was a DO that suggested it had
to do with the vagal nerve.
This made some sense to me ( though I know little
about the vagal nerve) as my cardiologist has
suggested much of my problem with nausea and vomiting
is a vagal problem.
I have wondered if the same is happening with Ava ...
being that she has epilepsy and dev intense motion
sickness ( only during car rides) early on.
Interestingly after her first big Status episode, the
motion sickness went away. Up until the day of her
episode, she vomited nearly everytime 15 minutes or so
into a car ride. Her neuro suggested that the AED
worked for the motion sickness, but she is off AEDs
now.
I have wondered if that big seizure corrected
something in her. I know sounds nuts ....
Do you have any thoughts on vagal nerve responses when
it comes to gagging and vomiting?
Is this something that is more sensitive in folks w/
EDS?
