[Dysphagia] Stay-put tube and tongue base/pharyngeal exercises
Can you give us any additional information about the tube. How does it "stay put"? Is it sutured to the nose, which I've seen before, or is it a new type of tube? Hilda Pressman

Subject: [Dysphagia] Stay-put tube and tongue base/pharyngeal exercises
We have a rather unfortunate middle aged female who has a complicated
medical history of CVA w/the birth of a child about 12 years ago. She
has had a significant hospitalization for the approx. the past 9 months
with gastroparesis requiring J-tube feedings and continued use of a
Stay-Put NG tube set to suction due to constant and episodic periods of
gastroparesis. She is so weak she is at significant risk for aspiration
even with her own secretions at times and feels nauseated most of the
time. She has this large tube in place, causing concern about doing
aggressive base of tongue exercises etc. Any ideas or prior experience
with working with patients using a Stay-Put tube?
