TRENDS AND APPROACHES 

St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center features Dr. Martha Burns, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Adjunct Associate Professor at Northwestern University and author of the Burns Brief Inventory of Communication and Cognition.  The content of this course will shape your therapy methods and application to increase positive outcomes!  Topic areas include the science of adult neuroplasticity in relation to aphasia therapy, when aphasia treatment is most effective, whether therapy content should proceed from easy to difficult - or begin with very difficult structures, the most effective intensity of intervention, the importance of emotional value to treatment, and whether compensation interferes with recovery.
