Tommorrow on CBC the National?UNLESS it gets bumped by something else ? (and
it could)--Maureen Taylor is doing a story on stroke rehab or the lack of
it.! I have the transcript of what Dr. Robert Teasell (from the University
of Western Ontario and lead author of the evidence based review of Stroke
Rehabilitation) says--- and it is really powerful.
If you are not in Canada?you can get this on the internet-- HYPERLINK

Stroke Rehabilitation
Stroke is recognized as being a devastating condition and most people need
to deal with the changes that stroke causes?only 10- 15 % of people are
referred to rehabilitation. If you are able to use the bathroom, walk, talk,
eat and shave and comb your hair you are often discharged home without any
further referral for rehabilitation.
These ?Mild? stroke survivors are the majority of people who have
stroke?60%! As more people get tPA?this percentage could even increase!
What happens to people with mild stroke if they do not get rehabilitation?
If you want this Canadian Research by Dr. Annie Rochette from the University
of Montreal -- please HYPERLINK "mailto:strokesurvivorsca at rogers.com"email
us so you have read the research prior to the story
Maureen Taylor is going to do a story on this on CBC, the National on Monday
Night.
Dr. Robert Teasell from the University of Western Ontario will comment on
the lack of rehabilitation in a story on CBC TV the National on Monday Night
at 10 PM?
After the story airs-- I would encourage you to log on to CBC?s forum and
tell your story?
* why rehabilitation made a difference to you, or
* how you didn?t get rehabilitation and how it has affected your life
* whether you as a professional feel that stroke rehabilitation is
meeting the needs of stroke survivors
The forum can be found: HYPERLINK
