i have an 89 y/o female who was hosptialized seconary to decreased po
intakes, lethargy and weakness. +UTI and they said she had pneumonia as
well but the CXR was unremarkable. she has h/o of senile dementia and HTN.
she now has a PEG and recevies a mech soft diet with thins. previous diet-
regular solids with thins. she came back to my long term care facility 2
days ago and i did my assessment yesterday. she had prolonged manipulation
with purees, decreased rotary chew for soft solids, suspected delayed
swallow with suspected decreased laryngeal elevation with all liquids and
solids but she did appear to swallow quicker with thins comapred to nectar.

after almost every trial regardless of consistency/texture/thickness, about
3-5 seconds after the swallow i heard this very audible sound that was not
quite gurgly but more like a rumble. it was dry sounding and not wet. it
sounded like a stomach was rumbling/growling but the sound was coming from
her pharngeal/laryngeal area. i know at times i make some weird sound kind
of like a stomach rumble in my throat which i have no control over, but this
was noted about 12 times in 15 minutes.

does anyone have any thoughts as to what that sound could be? it wasn't her
moaning. she mostly whispered during my assessment.

thanks
