[Dysphagia] tardive dyskinesia

I was referred a 64 y/o female for evaluation secondary to tardive
dyskinesia presenting with circular tongue movements. This dyskinesia is
thought to be related to a reaction to Reglan. She has been off it for some
time. She initially had extrapyramidal sympotms with involuntary writing of
her arms, legs, and tongue. The only symptom to persist after about 8
months is her tongue writhing. Her speech is intelligible, although her
rate and prosody are altered. She is taking in a regular diet but has to be
very careful not to bite her tongue during meals and throughout the day.
She is able to stop the movement for a brief period of time with great
concentration. She reports a previous dr tried behavioral modification
techniques which worked for a short period, but the movement eventually
returned. Any ideas, advice, or information which may help this woman would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Erin Rohde, MA, CCC-SLP
