[Dysphagia] billing

That changed several years ago. I believe that you have to use a modifier

My understanding is the MBS charge to Medicare incudes the "bedside" assessment and you can not bill for both.

Subject: [Dysphagia] billing

Hi all.

I have a question re: billing and Medicare. From what I was reading on the ASHA medicare billing list, and 92610 (swallowing assessment), they list this a something that is usually billed prior to videofluoroscopy. At our facility, we bill just for the videofluoroscopy. I always wondered why we didn't bill for the initial history, oral peripheral exam and swallow assess, before bringing the patient to radiology. It seems that we should be able to bill for this. I brought this to my supervisor's attention, however, they are not SLP's and I was hoping that I could get help here, as I usually do.

Thanks so much for your help again,
